The Non Diet

How many diets have you tried?

How many times have you failed?

I think all diets work, of course if you cut calories or go gluten free you will lose lbs, but usually they are too restrictive and over time the inevitable will happen… You go sugar crazy and binge on chocolate cake, chocolate ice cream, chocolate biscuits and chocolate. Before you know it your kitchen looks like an episode of Choccywoccydoodah and you feel so guilty you cry sweet chocolate tears.

In the long run however, you gain the pounds back and hunt for the new diet that claims will melt fat away if you give up solid food and drink a grapefruit smoothie for a week.

You will try anything, even if your breath starts to smell, you can’t leave the house because your constantly on the toilet in a laxative induced cleanse, you break out in spots or you can’t eat anything that contains the letter A.

Its time to take the guilt out of eating and take the diet out of dieting. The NON diet is all about taking charge, stop dieting… Full stop. Let’s stop this nonsense today and start non dieting 😀 The common sense approach.

Eat fruit or veg with every meal. Fruit with or for breakfast. A simple salad for lunch. Meat and veg for tea. Obviously just making a healthier choice is going to be a much better start towards a healthier lifestyle.

Drink plenty of water. This is common sense yes, but even if you make your first drink of the day a glass of water, you’ve already made a huge difference to the start of your day.

Save ‘junk’ for the weekend. This is one thing at the beginning you should do, so you don’t feel restricted. Save the pizza, for example, for a Friday night. By giving yourself the weekend you have made five full days five really healthy good days! And in time you will be able to cut the weekend down to one ‘naughty’ meal. The key is to not feel guilty. If you do binge one day, tell yourself it’s ok, it’s normal and don’t give up. Dust off the crumbs and continue.

Get a decent nights sleep. As and when you can, go to bed 20 mins earlier than usual. You will feel the benefits in no time.

Excercise. I’m not saying go to the gym every single day, but start off slowly and you will get fitter. There are so many things to do. A fitness DVD? There’s some great people on you tube who have short workouts you can follow. Go for a walk, take the kids, the dog, anyone and walk! Check out park runs, they are all over the UK. They have a great C25K (couch to 5k) programmes for beginners, again these are free. Play a sport, go swimming or clean the house from top to bottom. Anything is better than nothing.

We all know what we need to do, sometimes we just need a little nudge to get us started. So come on, who’s with me? Let’s start non dieting today.
